Founded in 1993 by the international rider Dane Rawlins and the
late Douglas Bunn, Dressage at Hickstead quickly became the UK's
premier dressage venue, being awarded the European Championship
just eight years later. Not only has Dressage at Hickstead
contributed substantially to the promotion of the discipline of
dressage throughout Europe, it has also provided our own British
riders with badly needed top-class facilities.
Dressage is the gymnastic training of the horse, the basic
foundation of every equestrian discipline, and it remains one of
the fastest growing sports in the UK.
Horse and rider are required to perform a sequence of precise
movements to test both the training and precision of both elements
of the partnership. The ease and lightness of the movement is
paramount and the resulting display of elegance and grace, power
and stamina, means dressage is an incredibly emotive and visually
stunning sport for spectators.
