Backwell Comprehensive School from Avon, Bristol, broke Stonar School’s two-year domination of the senior school championships. It was the school’s first visit to the championships, their victory came after a tense jump off against the 2005 winners, Kilkenny College, Ireland.
The winning team was Jess Elliott with Eddie, Nadya Hodgson and Truman and Abigail Bottomley riding Narc.
It was a long journey to reach Hickstead for Queen Margaret’s School, York, but worth the effort when their team of Daisy Miller riding Munch, Rosanna Lambert and Paper Boy and Sophie Beatty with Little Big Man took the Junior Schools Championship with a first round, collective total of only eight faults.
The Pony Club final developed into a five-team jump off between Atherstone, Cotswold Vale Farmers, Brocklesby, Heythrop and Ashford Valley after they all finished the first round on team totals of 12 faults. It was the Atherstone, with a zero jump off result, who clinched the title. Their team was Jean Smith and Tilly, Imogen Murray with Eliza Do Little, Oliver Johnson riding Grange Annie and Ben Murray on Elegant Madeira.
Individual titles went to the Atherstone’s Imogen Murray, Cox Green School’s Kristie Grimster and Laughton’s Dream in the senior championship and for the second year Pinewood School’s Jessica Mendoza and Creative Dancer in the juniors.
