Hickstead's Daisy Bunn hosts special charity event

Hickstead's very own Daisy Bunn has organised a special Christmas carol concert and charity auction to raise money for a cause close to her heart.

The charity auction and raffle include some remarkable prizes, including lessons with top riders such as reigning Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby winner Trevor Breen, Nick Skelton, Tina Cook, Shane Breen and Dane Rawlins.  There's also a meet and greet with Carl Hester and Richard Davison; a VIP trip to Hickstead, tickets to leading equestrian events and lots more.

For those less equine-inclined, there are some amazing goodies up for grabs, such as designer shoes, a Longines watch, minibreaks in the UK and in France, signed books, experience days and lots of other items - many of which would make brilliant Christmas presents.

Raffle tickets cost £10 and tickets must be bought before 3pm on Tuesday 2nd December.  The online auction closes at 11pm on Wednesday 10th December.

The carol concert 'NDPH's Starry night' will be held on Tuesday 2nd December at 7.30pm at St James' Church in Islington, London. The fun-filled evening will feature plenty of music and festive singing, with performances from Daisy Bunn and soprano Cheryl Enever.  The evening will also include special readings from celebrities such as TV star Christopher Biggins, presenter Clare Balding, Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes and model and TV star Jodie Kidd.

All of the celebrities have a longstanding connection with the famous Hickstead showground in West Sussex, which was founded in 1960 by Douglas Bunn and continues to be run by his family.

Clare presented the live TV coverage of the showground's two international horse shows for many years, while Christopher Biggins was a good friend of Douglas Bunn, and last summer he appeared as the Celebrity judge for Hickstead's annual Ladies' Day competition.

In his role as President of The British Horse Society (BHS), Martin Clunes is a regular visitor to Hickstead during the Longines Royal International Horse Show, the official horse show of the BHS. As well as being the goddaughter of Douglas Bunn, Jodie Kidd became a firm friend of the Bunn family and has often competed at Hickstead.

The evening is held in aid of research into NDPH (New Daily Persistent Headache), a disorder the Daisy Bunn suffered from for a number of years.  Daisy has been able to resume her life and return to her photography business, which she runs alongside her Director's duties at Hickstead, and now she hopes to raise funds to help other NDPH sufferers.

"I am lucky enough to have been symptom-free from NDPH for more than a year, but every day I think of all those who are still living with it, if indeed you can really call it 'living', as it is a life governed and usurped by pain," says Daisy.

"All monies raised through the carol service, raffle and auction will go to providing pain psychology treatment for a number of patients who can't afford it. We really do have the chance to give some patients and their families a little bit of hope this Christmas," Daisy adds.
