There was barely a dry eye in the house today at the Prenetics Royal International Horse Show, when legendary showman Allister Hood announced his retirement from the ring after an extraordinary 50-year career. The news came just after he won the British Horse Society Supreme Horse Championship with Our Cashel Blue, who was also retired immediately after the win - what a fitting way for them to bow out on a high. It was also lovely to see the stars of the showing world form a guard of honour as Allister left the arena, and testament to his popularity among his peers.
A new name was added to the historic Science Supplements Queen Elizabeth II Cup - and it's someone who has already picked up two titles at this week's Prenetics Royal International Horse Show. Scroll down to find out who it was.
We've also got an absolute treat of a prize draw today, with a pair of tickets for next year's ECCO FEI World Championships in Herning, Denmark. If you've got Olympic fever and want the opportunity to cheer on Team GB in person, now is your chance!

Today a new name was added to the historic Science Supplements BHS Queen Elizabeth II Cup, when Mark Edwards took the title for the first time. It crowned a fabulous week for the Welsh showjumper, who also won Saturday’s RIHS Sussex Stakes. Both wins came courtesy of the 11-year-old homebred, Montreuxs Tale.
Earlier, the £6,000 Prenetics Royal International Vase went to another rider who has had an extremely good week - Nicole Lockhead Anderson. It brought her tally of International Arena victories to two jumping classes and one showing championship.
Well done to both riders, and congratulations to everyone who won at this week's show. For all the jumping results, click here. |

Allister Hood won his ninth British Horse Society Supreme Ridden Horse title today, extending his record for having the most wins in this historic class. His ninth and final victory came with prolific cob Our Cashel Blue, who had picked up his qualifying ticket in Tuesday’s Oyster Wealth Planning BSPA Skewbald & Piebald Indian Trail Ridden Championship. Our Cashel Blue got three perfect 10s from the judges for a decisive win. If you'd like to watch the full class, click here.
Mia Donaldson, 16, had a day to remember with two major wins in quick succession in Hickstead’s famous International Arena. First she lifted The Leeman Family BSPS Supreme Show Pony Championship with 128cm victor Wilderness Early Bird, then an hour later was riding off for honours in the Supreme Products Supreme Ponies. A score of 27 saw them take the overall supreme. Click below for our full report. |
