Welcome to the Hickstead eNewsletter |
Hello everyone, and welcome to today's round-up from the penultimate day of the Al Shira'aa Jumping Championships. This week is simply whizzing past! Today has been one of those perfect showjumping days, with perfect conditions - sunny, but not too hot, the showground looking wonderful, and some brilliant sport to enjoy.
We were all excited to watch the Hy Equestrian British 1.10m Amateur Championship, as it featured none other than the former champion Flat jockey, Oisin Murphy. He gave a valiant attempt but in the end had to settle for second place - read on to find out who won. Over in the showing classes, we had hunters battling it out for the Alltech Supreme Hunter championship, with a six-year-old lightweight taking the crown.
Tomorrow is the final day of the show and that means it's nearly Grand Prix time! In the meantime, scroll down for all of today's reports and videos, and don't forget to enter our fabulous prize draw with Coldstream Equestrian.

There was a fair bit of interest in this morning's opener, with a certain champion jockey among the competitors for the Hy Equestrian British 1.10m Amateur Championship. Oisin Murphy produced a lovely clear on Tiger to join 13 others in the jump-off, and while he gave it a good go he couldn't quite catch the time of winner Alice Clennan and Henry W, who finished nearly 0.5sec faster.
In the I.C.E. Horseboxes British 1.20m Amateur Championship, Pollyanna Gredley took the win with Unex Arantos. Only four combinations made it into the jump-off and Polly's time of 40.94 was more than 2sec clear of her nearest rival. It marked a successful return to showjumping for Pollyanna, who has had a two-year break from competition, and it was also the first time she has showjumped in the International Arena.
The Al Shira'aa young horse finals reached their conclusion with the British Seven Year Old final, with Warwickshire's Adam Botham and Ebanking the fastest of the three in the jump-off. The stallion has had quite the week - while he has been off competing at Hickstead, three of his foals have been born!
Finally, in the EQ Horseboxes British 1.30m Open Championship, Helen Rees won with Bart VI. Fourteen went through to the jump-off, with half of these producing a double clear. Ben Walker ended up with three in the top six, taking the second and third spots behind Helen. |

The Alltech Hunter classes are always great to watch - not only do you see who has picked up their HOYS tickets, you can also get some good insight into who might be likely to feature in the line-up at next month's Prenetics Royal International Horse Show.
The Hood family are always ones to watch in the show ring, and today it was Oliver Hood who claimed the hunter tricolour with the stunning six-year-old lightweight, Timpany Imperial. Justine Armstrong-Small stood reserve with the middleweight Carlingsford King. Meanwhile, over in the workers, Katy Green took the title with the hugely promising eight-year-old AOC Quality Oz (pictured). |

Another four championships will reach their conclusion in the International Arena tomorrow, culminating in the £15,000 Al Shira'aa Trophy. Some of the most familiar names in showjumping will be among those trying to claim this special Grand Prix.
In the showing, we have the prestigious finals of the RoR Tattersalls Ridden Show Series Championship. It's always a fascinating class to watch as you get to see these remarkable former racehorses strut their stuff across our famous turf. Plus there are hacks, side-saddle classes and coloured horse and pony finals to look forward to.
Once again, all the action from the Longines International Arena will be streamed live on Hickstead.TV and ClipMyHorse.TV. |
