Welcome to the Hickstead eNewsletter |
Here we are at the end of the Al Shira'aa Jumping Championships - we've had a great week, and we hope you have too, whether you've been a rider, owner, groom, official, member of staff or hospitality visitor, or if you've simply been enjoying all the action via our livestream!
Well today crowned a pretty good week for none other than Guy Williams, who did what he set out to do in the Al Shira'aa Trophy. You know when you're up against Guy in a jump-off that you're in for a challenge, and he proved it today. Scroll down for today's round-up.
We've really missed having our usual crowds of people here with us this week, but the good news is that tickets are now on sale for the Prenetics Royal International Horse Show. We're releasing 4,000 tickets per day, with potentially more going on sale depending on the government restrictions at the time of the show. With no five-star classes for this summer only we've reduced ticket prices accordingly, with adult admission costing just £15, concessions available, and under 16s going free. Whether you're a die-hard equestrian fan or just looking for a fun, affordable family day out this summer, you're guaranteed a warm welcome at Hickstead.

Guy Williams began the Al Shira’aa Jumping Championships with a double of wins, and ended the show by claiming the top spot in the £15,000 Al Shira’aa Trophy. A total of 88 riders came forward for the final day’s Grand Prix, with many of British showjumping’s biggest names among the starters. But they faced a tough challenge in Kelvin Bywater’s course, and only 10 combinations produced clear rounds.
Guy and his hugely experienced campaigner Rouge De Ravel made the most of their later draw to deliver a clear in a time of 42.48sec, with the pair taking some daring routes and making the most of the open space of the International Arena by keeping up a relentless pace throughout. Irishman David Simpson was the next quickest in second, but even his speedy partner Foudre F finished 2.5sec in arrears. Click here for our full report.
Leicestershire-based Joss Williams finished the show in style with a double of wins. In the Animo UK British 1.00m Open Championship, his ride Zandokan proved the fastest of three in the jump-off to take the title, and picked up another winner’s sash in the Equitop GLME Senior Foxhunter Championship second round, meaning he picked up one of those exclusive qualifying tickets to the Horse of the Year Show in October.
The I.C.E Horseboxes Novice Championship went to William Rekert and Kyra SH, with Nicholas Edwards and Copain winning the I.C.E Horseboxes British 1.20m Open Championship. |

Today saw the finalists take to the International Arena for the RoR Tattersalls Ridden Show Series Championship. The winners were Collette McGoldrick on Mumford, a nine-year-old bay gelding who raced eight times on the Flat. He picked up a few placings but never won during his racing career, but he certainly looked every inch a champion today in the show ring. William Norton and Tikkskinned, who won the National Hunt division, stood reserve.
The RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Championship also took place with Hannah Chisman and FIrst Fandango taking the title ahead of Phoebe Workman and Johns Gem in reserve. Congratulations to all of the riders in today's finals, it was great to see so many former racehorses thriving in their new careers.
Jayne Ross won the Supreme Coloured Horse championship with KBF Crescendo, a previous winner of the RIHS supreme coloured title, while the Alltech Supreme Hack Championship went to Jo Bates and the prolific gelding Elusive.
Well done to all this week's showing competitors, and thanks for all your support. We're looking forward to seeing lots of you in just over three weeks' time! |
