Shane Breen got the Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting off to an excellent start, claiming the Hickstead Derby Tankard on Vistogrand. The Hickstead-based Irishman is no stranger to success at the All England Jumping Course, though there is one class that has so far eluded him – the Al Shira’aa Derby. Having finished third in the class in 2019, he is determined to finally claim the top spot and he has two excellent chances in Golden Hawk and Can Ya Makan. While Shane is known for being extremely cool-headed, his nine-year-old stallion takes being laid back to another level - click below to find out why, and to discover who else was on winning form on day one of the show. |

It's Hickstead Derby Trial day - when the start list for Sunday's Al Shira'aa Derby will be decided! The action gets underway from 12.30pm tomorrow. Other showjumping highlights include The Beethoven 7 & 8 Year Old Championship, in which the future stars of the sport will have the chance to shine, plus the Hickstead Derby Two Phase. The first of the week's showing championships also take place, with the cobs, riding horses, and mini M&Ms taking their place in the spotlight. We can't wait to find out who will be picking up their HOYS qualifying tickets.
There's loads to see and do for all equestrian fans, and plenty on offer for all members of the family with under-15s going free on Friday and Saturday when booked in advance. Don't miss the funfair, down beside the Derby Bank, as well as our extensive shopping village.
Tickets are available for all three days of the show, and the action will be livestreamed on Hickstead.TV and ClipMyHorse.TV. |

It’s no easy thing getting a clear round in the Al Shira’aa Derby, which is why there’s only been 64 clear rounds since the class first took place in 1961. Little wonder, then, that riders will often punch the air in sheer delight when they land after that final wide oxer, having jumped clear round one of the most tricky and famous courses in our sport. But what if their Derby challenge isn’t over? What if they must jump round a second time, albeit over a shortened version of the course? WorldofShowjumping.com takes a look back through the Derby archives to remember some of the great rounds against the clock. |
