There was a repeat of 2024 in the small hunter, miniature horse and hack classes today at the Agria Royal International Horse Show.
Fresh from their win at last month’s Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting, Helen Baker and Boston Black Tie took the Ellena Thomas BSHA Supreme Hack Championship. It was the second year in a row that the pair had won both titles.
"It's super special – after having won it last year, the pressure was on!” said Helen, who lives locally to the showground. "He's a showman, and a diva, and he's really settling into the job. I'm absolutely thrilled with him,” added the show producer, who is now hoping to win Sunday’s Barberstown Castle Supreme Horse Championship with Nicola Faulconbridge’s eight-year-old gelding.
"Tonight, he'll go out in the field with his friend and get to just be himself, and we're going to stay here and have a drink to celebrate, because we haven't got an early start in the morning,” said Helen. "We have my niece here, who rode him in the class before, and the owner, and the breeder – it's a real team effort!"
Another combination to win for the second year in a row was Alice Homer and Tidy Town, winners of the Culford Lodge Commodities Small Hunter Championship
"There's not enough words to say how special he is,” said Alice. “The moment he steps into that ring he's different. He knows, and he's just absolutely incredible. Not only is he the most fabulous show horse, he's also my absolute best friend. He jumps, he hunts, and my mum takes him cross-country schooling. Even my Granny keeps threatening to get on him! He’s the ultimate showman."
In the BMHS Supreme Miniature Horse Championship, Harriet Miller's Model Farm UK Midnight Meadow took the title for a second year in a row.
