This year’s recipient of the Dorian Williams Trophy is Hickstead’s stable manager, Lucy Whitecross.
The award is given annually to the person or group of people who have made the most contribution to the running of the Agria Royal international Horse Show.
“With around 3,500 horses and ponies competing at the show each year, overseeing their arrival and accommodation is a hugely complex and important task,” said Hickstead Director Lizzie Bunn. “Lucy works tirelessly to ensure this process goes as smoothly as possible for every competitor.”
Lucy started at Hickstead in 2015 as assistant stable manager, and she is now the commander in chief of the stable team. During this time, more than 40,000 lorries and trailers have passed through the gates of the stablefield during Hickstead’s international and national events, with more than 100,000 horses arriving on the showground.
Not only is Lucy the stable manager, she also liaises with the WH Security incident team, as well as the medical and veterinary teams on site, and has been a valued part of the WH Security team for more than a decade.
